🧊 GERF® WATERPROOF CRYOGENIC HOOD & FACE SHIELD
Multi-Layer Head, Face & Neck Protection Against Cryogenic Liquid Splashes | Polycarbonate Visor | Protective Eyewear Included | Shoulder Adjustment & Fastening System | Protection for Ultra-Cold Environments
❄️ CRYOGENIC HEAD & FACE PROTECTION
Engineered for professionals working in ultra-cold environments, the GERF® Cryogenic Hood & Face Shield provides a protective barrier around the head, face, and neck against incidental cryogenic liquid splashes and cold exposure. It is constructed with the same multi-layer protective system used in the GERF® cryogenic gaiters, combining thermal insulation, water resistance, flexibility, and comfort for demanding operations.
Certification scope: the standards and certification references associated with the shared GERF® protective system are presented as reference information only. They describe the performance or requirements associated with the corresponding certified PPE and shared construction system, and must not be interpreted as an independent certification of this hood unless hood-specific certification documentation is supplied.
⚙️ Material & Construction
- Multi-layer protective construction: follows the same protective-system approach used in the GERF® cryogenic gaiters.
- Water-resistant outer layer: helps repel incidental cryogenic liquid splashes and condensed moisture.
- Thermal insulation: helps reduce heat transfer during exposure to ultra-cold air and cryogenic operations.
- Polycarbonate visor: provides a clear protective barrier in front of the face while supporting visibility during work.
- Protective eyewear included: designed to be worn together with the visor to increase eye and face protection as part of the complete PPE system.
- Shoulder adjustment and fastening system: helps secure the hood in position and provides a more stable, comfortable fit during movement.
- Lightweight and flexible design: helps maintain mobility and comfort after donning.
- Low-temperature flexibility: the composite system is designed to remain flexible in ultra-cold working conditions.
🛡️ Integrated Visor & Eye Protection
The polycarbonate visor and included protective eyewear are intended to work together. Wearing both components provides an additional layer of protection for the eyes and face during operations where cryogenic splashes, cold vapor, or flying particles may be present.
- Polycarbonate visor: clear face protection integrated into the hood system.
- Protective eyewear: included for combined use with the visor.
- Combined protection: the visor and eyewear complement each other but do not replace a workplace risk assessment or other task-specific PPE.
- Stable positioning: shoulder adjustment and fastening helps the hood remain correctly positioned while the operator moves.
🏅 Reference Standards & Certification Information
The GERF® cryogenic protective system is associated with reference standards including EN 511 for protection against cold, EN 388 for mechanical risks, and ISO 21420 for general protective-glove requirements. These references belong to the corresponding certified PPE and shared protective-system documentation. They are not presented as a separate, product-specific certification for this hood.
| Reference | What it addresses | Scope for this product |
|---|---|---|
| EN 511 | Protection against cold | Reference for the shared GERF® cryogenic protective system |
| EN 388 | Mechanical risks | Reference for corresponding certified PPE, not an independent hood certification |
| ISO 21420 | General requirements for protective gloves | Reference associated with the corresponding glove PPE, not a hood standard |
| EN ISO 16321-1:2022 | Occupational eye and face protection | Applies to the FS-1000 polycarbonate face shield certification |
Face shield certification: the polycarbonate face shield is identified as model FS-1000 and is certified under EN ISO 16321-1:2022. Certificate No. CE-PC-240801-353-07-9A, issued by CCQS Certification Services Limited, Notified Body No. 2834.
Important: the visor certification applies to the certified face-shield component. It should not be read as independent certification of every textile component of the complete hood assembly.
🌡️ Thermal & Splash Protection
- Designed for work involving incidental cryogenic liquid splashes and cold exposure in ultra-low-temperature environments.
- Suitable for controlled operations involving liquid nitrogen (LN₂), liquid oxygen (LOX), liquid argon (LAr), liquid carbon dioxide (LCO₂), dry ice, and ultra-low-temperature freezers, when selected for the task and used as directed.
- Helps protect the head, face, and neck from cold air and incidental splash contact.
- Water-resistant construction helps reduce the risk of the garment absorbing and retaining liquid against the operator.
✅ Why GERF®?
- Same multi-layer protective-system approach as the GERF® cryogenic gaiters.
- Polycarbonate face protection: clear visor designed for occupational eye and face protection.
- Eyewear included: use the glasses together with the visor to increase eye and face protection.
- Shoulder adjustment and fastening: supports a stable fit during movement and operation.
- Head, face, and neck coverage: adds upper-body protection to a complete cryogenic PPE configuration.
- Flexible at ultra-low temperatures: designed to preserve mobility and comfort during demanding tasks.
- Clear certification scope: component certifications and shared-system references are identified without presenting them as certification of the entire hood assembly.
🏭 Recommended Applications
- Liquid nitrogen handling and dispensing.
- Dewar filling, transfer, transport, and maintenance.
- Ultra-low-temperature freezer operations.
- Dry ice handling and cold-storage work.
- Laboratory and industrial cryogenic operations.
- Cryogenic tanker, pipeline, and industrial-gas work areas.
⚠️ Limitations / Out of Scope
- Not suitable for immersion or prolonged submersion in liquid nitrogen or other cryogenic liquids.
- The hood and visor do not make the complete PPE system hermetic, gas-tight, or liquid-tight.
- Do not use the visor or eyewear as a substitute for a workplace risk assessment or task-specific respiratory, hearing, hand, torso, leg, or foot protection.
- Inspect the visor, eyewear, textile layers, and fastening points before use. Replace damaged or scratched components according to the applicable safety procedure.
- Correct adjustment, compatibility with the rest of the PPE system, and operator training remain essential.
